Inspired by the promise of the Spring season, and the inimitable beauty of the natural world, we wanted to create a look that felt fresh and luxurious with a relaxed and laid-back air. So take a look here at how we’ve gone from inspiration to reality with our Spring tablescape styling.
The Concept
Beautiful Spring. A season for weddings that we adore here at Pocketful of Dreams. After such long a and hard British winter, it’s so lovely to see everything revived and fresh again.
Our beautiful land if slowly waking up and coming back to life. There’s such strong associations with rebirth and freshness at this time of year, which makes for the perfect inspiration for a botanical springtime wedding design.
Working seasonally offers boundless opportunities to explore the ever-changing textures, colours and forms found in nature.
Encapsulating a wildly foraged aesthetic, one that feels effortless in it’s appearance, as though you have just stumbled upon a secret space where nature has taken over.
Tammy at Wild Bunch Flowers is an expert at this type of untamed floral composition, so we knew she would be the perfect partner to take us from inspiration to reality. Her work has a powerful connection to the landscape where she grows her flowers on the family farm nestled on the Shropshire/Welsh borders.
The setting of our spring fling was Davenport House, a space that is having something of a rebirth itself. Having just undergone extensive renovations to re-open for the 2018 wedding season. It’s a beautiful country house venue in Shropshire, steeped in history and the most incredible canvas for our design.
Layered textures are something we talk about a lot, they really are key to creating that richly detailed design that feels elegant and luxurious. Our layers included draped hemp linens with gentle creasing, to set the base for our relaxed Springtime tablescape. Gilded edge glass charger plates and aged gold crockery, alongside antique crystal glassware added a luxe feel. This was again softened by matching napkins with slightly frayed edges that were gently knotted, giving a further nod to the laid back feel of the design.
The key layer – the floral design – was a showpiece runner of Spring florals. The gentle flourishing form of the arrangements were inspired by the sense of new growth in the landscape and featured narcissi, sprigs of blossom, arching eucalyptus and evergreen honeysuckle foliage. Anyone who knows us, knows we’re suckers for candlelight, you really just cannot beat the ambiance created by flickering flames, so we added a variety of aged-brass candlesticks with stone-shaded taper candles, and a mix of cut-glass and mottled candle votives.
The overall colour palette chosen was one to represent the bounty of Spring, seeing sparks of golden hues alongside marshmallow shades of white, fresh greens and aged gold.
Gently flourishing script was applied to handmade paper place cards, whilst the feast was laid-out on individual menu’s atop each place setting. Featuring a beautiful hand-painted design, in aged gold to match our palette.
